The Denizens of Butley Creek

Denizen (/ˈdɛnɪz(ə)n/) – noun: a person, animal, or plant that lives or is found in a particular place. On Suffolk’s wild Heritage Coast, just upriver from the mouth of the River Ore is a tidal tributary that in the scheme of things looks remarkably unremarkable, insomuch as the inherent beauty of the landscape, the vast, looming skies,… Read More The Denizens of Butley Creek

Crab Stock and 2 Smoking Lobsters

Since I’ve been writing, I’ve come across a few like-minded souls who, to use the old phrase are “coming off the same page” as me. Promoting seafood is one thing and the industry surrounding it is massive, but trying to forge the link between the consumer and the guys who catch, is really something else… Read More Crab Stock and 2 Smoking Lobsters

Sublime in Soho

The last couple of months have been really rather self-indulgent for me. The remnants of a particularly glorious and assuaging “lobster” summer, devoted mostly to the pursuit of my favourite crustacean, has latterly given way to an autumnal surfeit of oysters, (if you can ever have such a thing) and one that I’ve relished every… Read More Sublime in Soho

Hot #shellfish in garlic & parsley butter @fishersinthecity 8 Scottish species and all fully traceable. Brown crab, native lobster, langoustine, scallop, oyster, mussels, cockles, razors. My perfect shellfish dish and worth taking time over. Messy hands... 🦞🦀😊 . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #fruitsdemer #hotshellfish #crab #lobster #langoustine #scallop #oyster #mussel #cockle #razor
Second night of Edinburgh #oysterlove 😊❤️ Loch Crerans this time from Dunbeg @fishersinthecity lovely vibe, v friendly, unpretentious #seafood dining with excellent provenance and knowledge. 👌🏼 . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #oysters #eatmoreukshellfish #doingmybit #oceanemotion
Perfectly cooked #sustainable Peterhead hake with brown shrimp butter @ondine_edinburgh Hake is one of those fish that is a magnificent alternative to cod, haddock etc. Just a crying shame our guys don’t have more quota for it...... Scottish or Cornish - two distinct populations of the same species and so SO tasty 😎👌🏼 . . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #eastcoastavocet #seafoodadventures #hake #responsiblyfished #provenance #greatbritishseafood
Solitaire seabird sunset. Another one of my favourites. I took this one aboard @ajax_pz36 as the day left us, about 40 miles NW of the Scillies - fishing for sustainable @mscintheuk #hake. Commercial fishing is an incredibly dangerous profession, but it does have its rewards....😎🐟 . . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #mscecolabel #cornishhake #sunset #sundown #flatcalm #seascape #lifeatsea #seafarers #gannet
Just-landed Whitstable #whelks on the quayside awaiting transport. None destined for the restaurants and seafood bars here though. These beauties are all bound for South Korea, where they are a delicacy. Good money for the fishermen, but sad to see such a wonderful resource go unappreciated here! 🐚 . . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #eatmoreukshellfish #whelks #seasnails #whelksingarlicbutter #tempurawhelks #pankowhelks #curriedwhelks #steamedwhelks #gingerandsoywhelks #comeonchefs
A lovely walk round Whitstable Harbour this morning on yet another #seafoodadventure 😎🐟🦞 Famed for its ‘Royal’ Whitstable native oysters, the main catch now, here from the harbour are whelks and cockles. However, the oyster fishery is still going strong and I sampled some gorgeous natives last night @whitstableoystercompany beautiful flavour - I can still taste the zinc this morning! 👌🏼 . . . . . . #whitstableharbour #simplyseafood #nativeoysters #whelks #cockles #apassionforseafood #eastcoastavocet #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #eatmoreukshellfish
