Lobster love from Port Isaac.

Summer is well and truly upon us now and the native lobster season in full swing, with reports of good fishing around the coasts of the UK and with the numbers of juvenile fish in great abundance, which bodes incredibly well for future years. Down in Cornwall, the inshore potting fleet based in Newlyn, have… Read More Lobster love from Port Isaac.

Harbouring a Talent

The Cornish fishing town of Newlyn, despite its rugged and uncompromisingly industrial facade, has played host to a panoply of artistic talent over the years. Not surprising, when you consider the rich and undeniably abundant sources of material that lie along the county’s imposing and unforgiving granite shores and amidst the mystical tor-strewn uplands of… Read More Harbouring a Talent

Newlyn Unwrapped

Writing about our homegrown seafood and tracing its journey from the fishing grounds to the kitchen, is a pursuit that continues to enthral me in a way that really casts my other lifetime’s exploits into the shadows. Not that I’ve been dissatisfied with anything I’ve accomplished over the years, quite the contrary in fact. However,… Read More Newlyn Unwrapped

My latest newsletter is just out, which is incredibly easy to subscribe to 😎 This time we have more on the ongoing inshore herring season from Hastings - the @padstowlobster Patrons’ Lunch at @fishkitchen and my podcast with @lesley.dolphin from my recent interview on her afternoon show. Also, we have my featured ‘Fish of the Month’ to help you decide! 🐟..... Link in bio- just click and connect... 😉#somethingforeveryone #apassionforseafood . . . . . . #simplyseafood #fishtales #newsletter #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodstories #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen
All that talk this afternoon about #seafood with @lesley.dolphin brought on a bit of a hunger ! Luckily @maximussustainable had the antidote in a sensational fillet of dayboat Cornish plaice. Here with rather toothsome homemade Maris Piper chips. Thank you Lesley for inviting me on your show and allowing me to share #apassionforseafood 😊🦞🐟🦀 . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen
Really looking forward to joining @lesley.dolphin as her ‘sofa guest’ tomorrow on BBC Radio Suffolk. I’ll be talking about my life in #seafood and the story of the Great British Catch from ‘net to plate’ 😎🐟🦞🦀🦐#apassionforseafood . . . . . . #simplyseafood #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen #nostalgia #harbourlife
Buckling: the hot-smoked version of a bloater, with the roe left in, but the head and gut removed. Eat hot or cold - a delicious and nutritious way of enlivening your Sunday breakfast. Try flaking into your scrambled eggs for a memorable morning..... 👊🏻 The herring shoals are spawning now here on the East Coast, moving offshore and over the last few weeks have provided some wonderfully affordable and simple meals. They’ll be back here again in early springtime when they’re ‘spent’ and thinner, but ideal for pickling.....👌🏻#nofinerfishthanaherring #apassionforseafood . . . . . . #simplyseafood #eatmorebritishseafood #seafooduk #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen
I’ve just spent a couple of days in Wales, where I chair the Welsh Seafood Development Group. Wales has some amazing #seafood resources both fish and shellfish, yet currently 95% of their catch is exported. It’s stunning quality and a lot of the shellfish like this awesome cock crab are available pretty much all year round from their very prolific waters. More awareness needed! 🦀🦞🦐 #apassionforseafood #welshseafood . . . . . . #simplyseafood #welshseafood #notjustseasonal #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen
Pint o’ Shrimps - Another iconic image from Hastings at the weekend, from one of the many traditional seafront seafood stalls. Cockles, whelks, winkles, rollmops and jellied eels, not to mention the fine array of local dayboat fish at the various fishermen’s huts. A very exciting weekend indeed, with @cjkentseafood @hastings_fish @whatsnicupto @waitesjulieann 😎👌🏼🦞🦀🐟🦐 #seafoodlover . . . . . #simplyseafood #hastingsherringfair #silverdarlings #apassionforseafood #healthy #nutritious #seafoodlife #seafoodadventures #sustainable #traceable #responsiblycaught #supportourfishermen
